Introduction to HR: Job Boards and NKE registration
Just a quick entry this week, providing some job search tips and information on the NKE exam for my fellow job searchers and hopeful CHRP-candidates to be, and an important question at the end for those of you who have already achieved your CHRP…
Aside from following the corporate web pages of my personal list of preferred organizations, I primarily use these three sites to track new online job postings:
These sites act as search engines that troll the internet for new jobs from companies that post vacancies on their own websites. They also draw postings from www.workopolis.com, www.monster.ca , and the www.jobbank.gc.ca website and allow you to search by category and location. Each site can turn up different results so I use all three. My favorite is indeed, mainly because it uses cookies to track which postings you have already viewed and only returns fresh posting upon your return. One of the upsides of these sites is that there is no charge for companies to have jobs posted to them, so they cover a greater percentage of available positions. One of the downsides is that now I’m competing with all of you for new jobs that are posted on these sites. I’ll see you outside the interview room I guess.
As for the National Knowledge Exam (for those of you who are unfamiliar, check out the Certified Human Resource Professional designation), registration for the May 7, 2011 write date is now open. In order to register you have to be a member in good standing of the HRIA www.hria.ca (which, thanks to collaboration, also makes you a member of the HRMAE). The deadline to register for this spring’s exam is March 7, 2011. Information on the exam and other writes dates can be found at http://www.hria.ca/HRIA/CHRP/NKE.aspx
Is it too early to start thinking about exam preparation? I’m hoping to set up a study group and do most of my prep work collaboratively, but I have heard that online prep courses and other in person classes can be beneficial.
I realize that personal learning styles vary but for those CHRPs reading this, what was your experience with these courses, and what approach did you take to prepare?
